Pillar -8 Safety Health and Environment


The main focus of this pillar is on creating and maintaining a safe workplace and pollution-free surrounding. The aim of this pillar is to adopt a system which will identify all potential hazard and eliminate the reason that causes accidents, injuries, possible death and disabilities. The social obligation also forces the organization to look after environmental safety. TPM promotes this activity through of employees in the different departments were safety is discussed and new ideas are adopted.

Objective

The objective of this the pillar are as follows.

1. Zero accidents

2. Zero health damage due to occupational diseases

3. Zero pollution of any sort

4. Zero fire hazard

Activities
Activities conducted under this pillar are:

1. Formation of an organizational policy for the safety of people and machine

2. Form a committee of a representative from the officer grade and worker with a senior management representative as the head

3. Appointing a safety a manager who will look after all safety activity for full time

4. Preparation a detailed safety manual

5. Conducting regular safety audits

6. Implementing various safety and works permit system

7. Displaying safety poster, slogan inside the working place

8. Arranging safety training to workers and officers

9. Arrange regular fire fighting demonstration

10. Arranging first aid training to selected worker and officers

11. Celebrating safety week every year by conducting a series of lectures, contest film show exhibition of safety equipment etc

12. Conducting regular medical checkups of all employee

Some of the pollution control activities are as below:

1. Form pollution control policy based on the organization activities

2. Take an initial survey of the present environmental condition

3. Plug out leakage, seepage, spillage etc

4. If required, modernize present pollution control equipment to suit the requirements

5. Plant lot of trees

6. Conduct regular environment audit

7. Create awareness amongst the employees about keeping the environment pollution free

8. Put up posters at strategic place about pollution and its bad effect on society.
