Pillar- 6 Training

The need for training is felt in every pillar of TPM and hence it is said sometimes in jest that this is not a separate pillar but it is included in all other seven pillar. Education and training is necessary to increase problem-solving ability and technical knowledge of all employees.

Training


Objective

  • The focus should be on the knowledge of the process, equipment, and common defect and the remedial action to be taken.
  • Train the employee to apply the gained knowledge, skill and techniques in there day- to day activities.
  • Create an environment congenial to training and self-learning based on the needs
  • Prepare a suitable training program for  the employee to use problem-solving tools, observation techniques, measurement techniques for achieving zero defect, zero downtime, zero losses, zero accident.
  • Train the employee to be stress-free and enjoy the work-life.
  • To have multi-skilled revitalized in the organization whose morale is very high, who can perform all the required function effectively and independently.
  • To teach employee not only ‘Know-How’ but also ‘Know-Why’, that is (The root cause of the problem). The employee is trained to achieve the four-phase of skill.
  • The ultimate aim is to create a factory full of an expert.

The Difference phase of skill as mention below :

  • Phase-1: Do not know
  • Phase-2: Know the theory but cannot do
  • Phase-3: Can do but cannot teach others.
  • Phase-4: Can do but also, teach other

Steps in Training

Following steps be taken in education and training pillar.

  • Taking the stock of present status of training in the organization, present level of knowledge and skills available in the organization.
  • Based on the above information and requirement of the plant, form policy and set the priorities of training needs.
  • Decide the syllabus for training the operator about the maintenance skills to be taught, decide who will train them and accordingly constitute the training program.
  • Similarly, formulate a similar program for maintenance personal about the improvement system in the existing equipment
  • Establish the require the infrastructure of training, prepare an annual calendar for a training program
  • Starting the training
  • Take a periodic review of training of operator and use the feedback to make alteration, improvement and modification in the training system.

Syllabus for Training

  • Do the initial basic cleaning (Here cleaning is inspecting)
  • Address source of problem (Leakage, dirt, grease etc)
  • Improve access to hard-to-clean and hard-to-inspect areas.
  • Development cleaning, inspecting and lubricating standards
  • To get mastery in the general skill
  • Organize workplace
  • Perform full group maintenance and equipment management.
